How it works
1.Hard Water Enters:
Water containing calcium and magnesium enters the water softener's tank.
2.Ion Exchange:
The water flows over resin beads, which are negatively charged and attract the positively charged calcium and magnesium ions. These hard minerals stick to the beads and are exchanged for positively charged sodium ions from the resin.
3.Soft Water Exits:
Soft water, now with sodium ions instead of calcium and magnesium, flows out of the tank and to your home.
4.Regeneration:
- A concentrated saltwater solution is drawn from a separate tank and flushed through the resin tank.
- The high concentration of sodium ions in the brine displaces the accumulated calcium and magnesium ions from the beads.
- The brine, along with the flushed-out minerals, is sent down the drain.
- The resin is now recharged with sodium ions, and the system is ready for use again.
